  4.     Christmas comes but once a year -- for which Londoners can be
  5. thankful, since the Irish Republican Army has chosen to mark the
  6. season with terrorist attacks. Last week a bomb exploded at
  7. London's Clapham Junction, the country's busiest railway
  8. intersection. No one was injured, but an estimated 500,000
  9. commuters were affected and the city's businesses could lose
  10. around $90 million.

  12.     Since Dec. 1, the I.R.A. has set off 25 fire bombs across
  13. the country in a campaign of economic sabotage. Although no one
  14. has yet been hurt, one device went off at London's National
  15. Gallery.

  17.     In Northern Ireland the activities of the I.R.A. and
  18. Protestant extremists have been more lethal, taking 89 lives
  19. this year. But as a government spokesman explained, "It doesn't
  20. make news to bomb in Northern Ireland. Fire bombs in London at
  21. Christmas cause lots of publicity."
